Activities related to Geographical Indications and regional food products

The AGRIDEA Geographical Indications pool emerged in 2002 out of the need to analyse the experiences developed through the initiation and creation of Swiss regional food supply chains and with the participation to several European research programmes on Geographical Indications and food supply chains.

Meanwhile, the team developed into a competence pool on Geographical Indications on an international level, with a broad range of product and services such as

  • research and development projects,
  • short-term expertises on GIs for enterprises and/or producers as well as for private or public institutions,
  • advice in intellectual property, certification and marketing,
  • training modules and seminars.

To sum up, we provide support to regional food products at three complementary levels: local, regional and international.

AGRIDEA recognises the fact that every situation is specific and that AGRIDEA can only play a supporting role for the field actors who fully appreciate and understand the cultural specificities behind their products. The members of the team have a passion for variety and quality of products and understand the importance of the protection of traditional and collective knowledge for rural development.

Supply chain management

We offer economic, market and marketing studies for enterprises and institutions that deal with GIs. We also provide institutions with feasibility study on specific products registration and their potential added value generation and we give internal governance and organisational advice to GI producers.

Origin product public policies

We provide tools and strategies that contribute to increase the local agri foods products income and to generate high value activities in rural areas. We provide long term technical back up or short-term technical advice on specific issues such as legal and intellectual property rights issues, registration policy and institutional framework, identification of priority sectors and/ or products.

Research projects

We take part in and animate several research and development projects concerning GIs. Our objective is to promote the GI system of added value repartition, which tries to maintain the generated added value in the local production areas and appears to be innovative and performing.

Training modules and seminars

We offer different kind of trainings on food quality policies, geographical indications, local supply chain and creation of added value...
